Ice Cream Making & Moving On – 21 July
Thursday Beavers finished the Summer Term making Ice Cream in a bag! The Beavers loved doing this, particularly trying the finished product, which I understand was yummy! Our thanks go to Jane and Ellen for preparing and organizing this brilliant activity.
We also had four Beavers preparing to Move-On to Cubs – Scott W., Robert R., Joshua J. and Hayden W. Good luck boys – we wish you ALL the very best in Cubs.
Presentation Night – 16 September
This year Beavers is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Each Colony on the Island was given a SILVER Challenge – to take part in six different activities which spelt out the word SILVER. Thursday Beavers completed the challenge and had a great time in the process. The Island Beaver Leader – Big Beaver – came to our meeting to present us with a trophy and there were certificates for all the Beavers too.
As Thursday Beavers won the Sports Day this year, we took the opportunity to ask Big Beaver to present the winners with their own individual trophies. It was then time for a group photo – showing off our Bowling, Football and Sports Trophies!
Group Camp – 24 & 25 September
Some of Thursday Beavers attended their first sleepover at our recent Group Camp to celebrate 50 years of 2nd Onchan Scout Group. It was the first sleepover for some of our Leaders too! There was much excitement and anticipation – the Beavers who joined us for the afternoon activities had a wonderful time and there were a few tears when it was time to go home. Those who stayed enjoyed more activities and also took part in a wide game and a campfire before heading to bed. Most had a good night’s sleep and were ready for action the following day, in particular there was much excited about going bowling! I think all those Beavers who took part had a truly great experience and would be happy to repeat the experience – some of the Leaders are not so sure!!
Fun Day – 2 October
Island Beavers celebrated the 25th Anniversary of Beaver Scouting with a Fun Day held at Ballacottier School. Beavers were able to try and take part in 25 different activities. I’m not sure if anyone actually managed to complete 25, but they all had a fantastic time trying – especially 2nd Onchan Thursday Beavers. The Fun Day ended with party bags and celebration cake!
Investitures – 20 October
We have had an amazing six new Beavers start this term – Oliver B., Ben C., Charlie M., Billy K., Vannin C. & George C. They have all settled in really well and seem to be enjoying their Scouting experience. A warm welcome to Thursday Beavers. We have also been joined by James H. who moved from Sunday Beavers. James was also a nominee for Beaver of the Year 2011 with his last Colony, so very well done James.
Awards Night – 21 October
Congratulations to Thomas H. – our Beaver of the Year 2011, and our other nominees Robert R., Joshua M. and Luke C. It is always difficult to pick one outright winner because every Beaver brings something special to our meetings and activities. However, we do look for someone who attends all our meetings, who is well behaved and helpful; and is eager to take part in – and attend – activities outside our usual Thursday meeting. We are looking out for potential nominees for 2012 already!
