Thursday and Tuesday Beavers held a joint Sleepover on Friday 4 March. Twenty seven Beavers arrived at 7pm and 25 Beavers stayed the night. After a couple of games, to let of some excess excitement, a supper of hot chocolate and biscuits – thanks Juan’s mum for the shortbread, it was time for the Movie – Lego Star Wars!
At 11pm it was lights out and the all important sleep – after some giggling and snorting and shuffling around (and that was just the Leaders) things started to quieten down. At 1.30am there were still a couple of Beavers awake, and Leaders – but I am guessing by about 2pm we must have all dozed off.
Some of us awoke, a little chilly at about 5.38am (to be exact)! A relatively good night’s sleep for a Sleepover! By 7am most of the Beavers were awake and it was time for a breakfast of cereal and Nutella on toast!
After tidying up bags and bedding, there was just time for a few games before parents started to arrive.
Very well done to all the Beavers and Leaders – and really lovely / successful Sleepover and a great adventure, and £86.80 raised for Guide Dogs for the Blind Isle of Man – so well worth giving up a few hours sleep for.
Hard to believe it has been 18 months since our last Sleepover/Movie Night. Time flies! Nine Thursday Beavers and 15 Tuesday Beavers met on Friday night for a Sleepover / Movie Night at the Scout Hall. The Beavers were very, very excited, and for many it was their first night away from home.
We started the evening with some games followed by juice and biscuits. Then it was time to get ready for the movie! We just about managed to fit 24 Beavers along two sides of the hall, so they all had a good view of the film. Once they were in their PJs, the snacks came out and the movie started – Disney’s Robin Hood. There were numerous visits to the kitchen for juice and hot chocolate, followed by numerous visits to the bathroom! At 11pm it was time for bed – it was a long film! After about half an hour most of the Beavers began to settle down and some were even asleep! I think it was sometime after midnight when the last Beaver fell asleep and the constant rustling of bedding and clicking of torches subsided. There are different versions of how much sleep was had by all, but most of the Beavers, and unfortunately the Leaders, began to stir about 6am.
The evening seemed to be a resounding success, as everyone was happy to come back again another time (except the Leaders) – funny that! Thanks to all the Leaders and special thanks to Aaron and Ellen for your help too. Thanks also to Phoenix Scouts for letting us use the hall on their Troop Night.
Very well done to ALL the Beavers who took part in the Sleepover / Movie Night. We usually like to nominate a ‘Beaver of the Sleepover’ – someone who was well behaved (which was everyone) and someone who got themselves organised for bed and settled down quickly to sleep. Tuesday Beavers will announce their Beaver at their next meeting, but for Thursday Beavers there were two Beavers who stood out – Harry J and Jacob H. Well done boys.
This was also a Fundraising Event for the Jamboree 2015 and we think we may have raised £75 towards the fund.
Tuesday and Thursday Beavers finished their year with a joint Christmas Party held at the Fun Farm in Onchan. We had 34 Beavers enjoying fun and food! We would like to thank all our Explorer Scout helpers for their continued commitment and help this year – you make our job a lot easier. Our thanks also goes to Ellen for her help at Tuesday Beavers. We would also like to thank all the parents for their support and help over the year, it is always very much appreciated. Lastly Steve, Jane, Lee, Jackie & Chris would like to wish all our Beavers and their families a very happy Christmas and a joyful New Year. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2014 for some more Scouting fun!
Tuesday & Thursday Beavers recently visited The Original Manx Fudge Factory in Ballasalla. The visit started with a demonstration of fudge making – the Cream & Butter Fudge – which involved combining different ingredients such as sugar, cream, butter, glucose and condensed milk. The Beavers were then invited to sample some of the different types of fudge produced in the factory – the parents and Leaders seemed to really enjoy this part too! Favourites included the Belgian Dark Chocolate, Lemon Meringue Pie and the Manx Butter and Cream. We also tried some Manx Mint Cake which was particularly nice.
Once the tasting session had finished the Beavers were able ‘go’ shopping and they brought some boxes of fudge, bars of Mint Cake and some Chocolate bars. The Beavers then headed home – perhaps a little giddy on sugar!
Both 2nd Onchan Beaver Colonies took part in the Island Beaver Scouts Five a Side Football Competition on the 16. November 2013, at Onchan Community Centre. All Beavers played brilliantly with Tuesday Beavers A and Thursday Beavers both getting into the final. It was a close game with Tuesday Beavers winning 2-1. Well done to all Beavers who took part.
Tuesday and Thursday Beavers celebrated Halloween last week with a joint Fancy Dress Party. All the Beavers and Leaders dressed up in some scary costumes and masks! The Beavers took part in some spooky games and activities, including the chocolate bar game, apple bobbing, sweets in flour and pass the cauldron! There was a prize for the best fancy dress costume (which was chosen by our Explorer Scout Sam) and went to Luca from the Tuesday Colony. The prize for the best behaved Beaver of the night went to Cameron, also from the Tuesday Colony. Well done boys!
Thursday and Tuesday Beavers took part in the Island Beaver Sports Day on the 30. June 2013, at Gymn’s FC. Conditions were good, although rain threatened. Nine Beaver Colonies took part in the Sports Day, and events included running races, egg and spoon races, sack races, skipping races, ball and cup races and space hopper races. There were also two relay events, the running relay and the infamous water relay.
Thursday Beavers are the reigning Champions and holders of the Sports Day Trophy. We had a good turnout of eleven boys, only four of whom had competed last year. We also undertook the usual two weeks of training prior to the event. We are delighted that not only did Thursday Beavers win the Trophy for yet another year, they won in style – with fifteen first places out of a total of thirty races! They also won the running relay, despite a fall at the start which put them at the back of the field, and they won the water relay, in spite of the small jug and bucket!
All those who took part finished in the top three in at least one of their races – a remarkable result, so very well done to Harry, Ryan, George, Oscar L, Luke, Alex, Lee, Fergus, Evan, Charlie & Oscar N!
Thursday Beavers finished the afternoon with 317 points and in second place came Tuesday Beavers with 186 points. All round a great afternoon for 2nd Onchan Beavers. The competition continued in the Leaders’ egg & spoon race with Lee beating Jane to the post, however it was noticed that there was some cheating going on!
