Explorer Scouts Christmas

The Onchan District Explorer Scouts held their Christmas Camp over the 15. – 16. December 2012. The Explorer Scouts spent the day hiking to Eary Cushlin in two groups from both Douglas and near Kirk Michael. At the isolated outdoor centre they were joined by Assistant Island Commissioner for Explorer Scouts Mike Southall, for a full Christmas Dinner laid on by their Leaders. After the meal Mike, was presented with a surprise birthday cake for his 70th birthday, which is in a few days time. After a movie, the Explorer Scouts headed off to bed.

On the Sunday morning the Explorer Scouts were woken up to Bacon and Eggs for breakfast, before gear was packed away and everyone jumped in the minibus to head off home.

Hike – Sunday 25. November

Snaefell Mines

We are holding a hike on Sunday 25. November 2012. The activity is open to all Scouts from the Moddey Dhoo Troop, the Phoenix Troop and the members of the Onchan Explorers. We will be meeting at Laxey Wheel Car Park for 10:00, the hike also finishes at the same car park for 15:00. You will need suitable gear for hiking in including full waterproofs, hiking boots or good walking shoes. You need a daysac with a packed lunch inside. We will be going out onto the hills, so if you come unprepared (ie without a coat) you will not be going. The photo above shows Snaefell Mines, which we will be walking by.

Remembrance Sunday

There was a good turn out of Cubs and Scouts at the Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service which was held in Onchan on the 11. November 2012. Luckily the weather stayed dry and the sun came out every now and again. Captain of the Parish Peter Kelly, who is also President of The Scout Association – Isle of Man, stood in for the Governor this year who was at another service.

Remembrance Sunday

On Sunday the 11. November 2012, it’s Remembrance Day, the day we remember all those who gave their lives defending their Country and the way of life we enjoy.

Our two Cub Packs together with the two Scout Troops and the Explorer Unit will be joining with the people of Onchan to Parade from the Manx Arms Hotel to St. Peters Church, where a Service of Remembrance will be held. Afterwards we will be parading to the War Memorial on Main Road, where a short Open Air Service will be held.

We will be meeting at the Manx Arms Car Park for 09:20. Full uniform, including Scout Activity Trousers and shoes, is to be worn. Please bring a coat with you in case of inclement weather. The Open Air Service at the War Memorial will finish at about 11:15 from where you can be collected.

All Members are expected to attend.

Explorer Scouts off to Nepal

Six Onchan Explorer Scouts are today heading off on their expedition to Nepal, for the Explorer Belt Challenge. They will be doing some serious hiking while they are there as well as taking on a project with a local school. The Scouts have been fund raising for well over six months and we are sure they will have a fantastic time and have some great stories to tell when they get back home.
