18 Cubs, 3 Leaders, 2 Young Leaders and Ruby (Akela’s Dog) spent the weekend 4. – 6. November at Ardwhallan in West Baldwin. All Cubs arrived in their Cub Uniform on Friday evening and after a small chat, the Cubs sorted through all their gear and explored their rooms and made their beds.  It was then time for a small hike up to St Luke’s church where all the Cubs competed in a Treasure Hunt around the Church Yard.  After most of the Cubs had completed the Treasure Hunt it was then time to head back to Ardwhallan once we had arrived back it was time for supper in the Viking Longhouse, we all sat around the camp fire and toasted marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate. It was getting late so it was time to go to bed, eventually after about an hour all the Cubs were fast asleep.

The next morning the Cubs were silent until Akela woke them up at around 7.30am, it was a lovely sunny day outside, so after breakfast and inspection the Cubs were split into three groups and did some Archery with Akela, Backwoods Cooking with Rob & Low Ropes with Mark.  After lunch the Cubs did some orienteering around the grounds of Ardwhallan before settling to watch a bit of TV.  It was getting dark and as it was Bonfire Night a couple of fireworks were let off in the grounds at Ardwhallan which all the Cubs enjoyed.  Everyone was getting hungry so we had a chippy tea at the Scout Hall before watching the firework display in Douglas. Back at Ardwhallan we watched a couple of movies and then settled for the night.

Sunday morning another lovely day outside, again all the Cubs were still asleep or just waking up around 8am, so after a quick wakeup call it was time for bacon baps which always go down a treat especially with the Leaders.  It was time to continue with the activities, we did some Bivouac Building in the plantation followed by Danish Long Ball in the field, and then a wet assault course.  All the Cubs got very wet, muddy and very dirty, the Leaders surprisingly stayed clean and dry.  It was approaching lunch time so hot dogs and pizza was on the menu after lunch it was a prize presentation and awards and badges were handed out and then it was time for one last activity ‘the spider web’ all Cubs had to get all 18 through the web without touching it.  They didn’t do to well so with a little bit of help from the Leaders they succeeded.  It was approaching 3pm and the camp came to a close, a big thanks to Explorer Scouts Dan & Freddie for their help throughout the weekend and also all the Leaders involved in making the Cub Camp a great success.
