Civic Sunday Parade

image

We have been invited by Onchan District Commissioners, to take part in their Civic Sunday Parade & Church Service, which is taking place on Sunday 20. May 2018. All Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders are asked to take part in the Parade and Service.

We will be meeting on the Grassed Area below Hague Drive, Onchan Park for 14:15 prompt. Full uniform is to be worn, including school shoes. The Church Service is being held at St. Anthony’s, from where youth members can be collected at about 15:45.

As a Group we only attend three Parades a year and they are an excellent way of showing off our Group to the general public. Please support your Scout Group by making sure you attend.

We appreciate that a lot of members will have just come back from our Blackpool Day Trip the night before, but we hope they also make the effort to attend this parade and show the village of Onchan what a great Scout Group we have.

St. George’s Day Parade

St. George is the Patron Saint of Scouting and each year Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers from all over the British Isles get together in their Counties and Districts to take part in Parades and Services to celebrate Scouting’s National Day.

Here on the Isle of Man, we at 2nd Onchan, will be joining with all the other Island Scout Groups on Sunday 29. April 2018, at the St. George’s Day Parade, which this year is taking place in St. Johns, with the service being held at Tynwald Hill. Being one of the most important dates in the Scouting Calendar, all the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders will be renewing their Beaver, Cub and Scout Promises, during the Service.

As you may know, 2nd Onchan is the largest Scout Group on the Isle of Man and as such, we will be expected to have the biggest and most likely, the smartest turnout on the Parade.

I would ask that every member of 2nd Onchan Scout Group, from the youngest Beaver Scout to the oldest Explorer Scout takes part, to support not only their Section, but also the Group and Scouting on the Isle of Man, by attending the St. George’s Day Parade and Service. Parents are also welcome to attend the service.

Full Uniform is to be worn, including Scout Activity Trousers and School Shoes. I would also suggest that a coat is brought by everyone, just in case of inclement weather.

We will be meeting at St. John’s Primary School (there is a drop off point next to the school) for no later than 2.10pm. Please assemble with other members of 2nd Onchan. The Service will finish at approximately 4pm and collection of members will be from Tynwald Hill. Parents are welcome to watch the Parade and take part in the Service, but we ask that they don’t walk in the parade with members.

Thursday Beavers Update

SUNDAY 21 JANUARY 2018

image

There was no better way to spend a wet January afternoon than watching Onchan Thursday Beavers storm to victory in the Island Beaver Five a Side Football Competition!!

Well done Thursday Bulls the Winners for the 4th year running, and our two other teams Goblins and Ravens!

It’s always a Thursday Beaver Colony effort – and we were all winners on the day!! Thanks to everyone – especially Rob, Dave, Darren, Bonnie and Michael for all your help, and all the parents who supported the afternoon, whether it was staying to watch or bringing the children along!

MANX DANCING – THURSDAY 25 JANUARY 2018

image

imageWe had a fantastic night at Beavers learning Manx Dancing! Not only is Beavers an amazing opportunity to try and learn something new, it is also brilliant to see our talented parents (and Beavers) getting involved too! Well done everyone – great effort from you all, and some really good dancing!

Well done Joshua on a really wonderful solo performance and thank you to Joshua’s mum – Rachel, for teaching everyone the dance, and Ida for the accompanying music! This is one of the reasons that being involved in Scouting is so worthwhile (as well as winning the Island Football and Sports Competitions)!!

ISLE OF MAN PARLIAMENT – THURSDAY 1 FEBRUARY 2018

image

Thursday Beavers were very lucky to have a tour of the Isle of Man Parliament recently, organised and led by a dad (Andy) of one of our Beaver’s (Sam). The Beavers, parents and siblings all had a look around the various chambers learning lots of facts and information about the building, and the various roles and traditions.

We were very fortunate to have the Onchan MHKs – Rob Callister and Julie Edge – join us on the tour, and they both talked to the Beavers about their roles and responsibilities. We were also lucky to meet Mr Speaker (MHK – Juan Watterson) who very kindly got out his dress robe.

The Beavers took part in voting on questions such as ‘should school be banned?’ – which had a 50/50 split, so wasn’t passed and ‘should match attacks be allowed in school?’ – which was 16 in favour, 8 against!!

A very big thank you to our Beaver dads – Andy and Graeme – for organising the tour for us.
