Beavers at Watertrough Cottage

image

Thursday and Sunday Beavers held a joint meeting at Watertrough Cottage, near the South Barrule Plantation. The Beavers had a great time exploring the cottage and the surrounding area. We then set out on a hike around the plantation with Group Scout Leader Ash. The weather stayed dry and everyone enjoyed the walk. The Beavers returned to the cottage for hotdogs, crisps and a drink.

Six Thursday Beavers are due to Move On to Cubs so we finished the evening by presenting certificates and badges to Rhys, Adam P., Billy, Samuel, Cameron & Oliver. We would like to wish these Beavers the very best of luck in Cubs.

Special Olympic Badges were also presented to all those Beavers who took part in the Olympic Themed Sports Day – which Thursday Beavers won! Beavers can wear these badges until the end of 2012.

Thursday & Sunday Beavers Sandcastle Building

image

On Saturday, Thursday and Sunday Beavers met with other Colonies on Douglas Beach for a Sandcastle and Marble Run Competition. The aim was to build a sandcastle or a marble run. There were many prize categories, including best sandcastle, best sandcastle by a Beaver, and best decorated sandcastle. There were also prizes for the best marble run and the marble run where the marble ran the furthest.

There were some great displays and Sunday Beavers won a prize for their joint display of sandcastles – very well done. Adam & Torin from Thursday Beavers also won a prize for best decorated sandcastle by a Beaver (that is without any adult assistance) – so well done boys.

Some of the dads seemed to be enjoying the afternoon building sandcastles too!

Beavers Three Legs Challenge

image

Sunday Beavers and Thursday Beavers have just completed the third and final leg of the Three Legs Challenge 2012. Eight Beavers from each Colony joined the walk from Crosby to Braddan. The rain had already started before the walk got underway at 10am and it didn’t stop! The path was wet and very muddy in places – but the Beavers, along with mums, dads, aunties and granddads persevered and completed the walk in about an hour and a half – a great effort. Five Beavers from the Thursday Colony have now completed all three legs of the 2012 Challenge – so very well done to George, Oliver, Vannin, Cameron and James who have gained their Three Legs Challenge Badge. Sunday Colony will be awarded their badges next week.

Olympic Torch Visits Sunday Beavers

image

On Sunday 1. July 2012, Sunday Beavers were very excited to receive a visit from Olympic Torch bearer Mr Simon McFerran. Simon is the Douglas Lifeboat Station Souvenir Secretary and he carried the torch through Onchan on the 2. June.   Since agreeing to come to the meeting, Simon unfortunately broke his foot but bravely attended on crutches.   The Beavers were delighted to see him and were thrilled that Simon very kindly allowed each of them to hold the Olympic Torch.

2nd Onchan Beavers Triumph at Sports Day

image

2nd Onchan Thursday and Sunday Beavers took part in the Island Beaver Sports Day, held at Gymn’s FC. The Sports Day took on an Olympic theme and each Colony represented a different country. Thursday Beavers were Jamaica and Sunday Beavers were Spain!

Despite some rain showers in the morning, the sun came out, the ground dried up and conditions were near perfect. With a brilliant turnout of 22 Beavers and two weeks of training – 2nd Onchan Thursday Beavers came in a fantastic FIRST (out of 11 Colonies)! Beavers took part in running races, the egg and spoon, the sack races, skipping, ball and cup races and the space hopper races, finishing with the running relay and the infamous water relay– it was a great result and all the team did their best!

Just two points behind 2nd Onchan Thursday Beavers were 2nd Onchan Sunday Beavers. Sunday Beavers had a turnout of just 7 Beavers meaning they were all kept busy for the afternoon! The final event – the water relay – made all the difference to Sunday Beavers where they came in second place – giving them valuable points and moving them up to second overall position – another great result from 2nd Onchan!

Sunday Beaver Scouts Dillon and Kieran made a presenation to their Beaver Scout Leader Marcie Dean, who was standing down from her role. All the Beavers gave Marcie a great big BRAVO. The Group thanks Marcie for everything she has done over her time with the Group.image
