On Sunday 14. July 2014, Thursday and Tuesday Beavers took part in the Island Beaver Sports Day at Gymn’s FC. Conditions were good and the sun shone. Seven Beaver Colonies took part in the Sports Day, and events included running races, egg and spoon races, sack races, skipping races, ball and cup races and space hopper races. There were also two relay events, the running relay and the infamous water relay.
Thursday Beavers were the current Champions and holders of the Sports Day Trophy. We had a good turnout of fourteen boys, only five of whom had competed last year. We also undertook the usual two weeks of training prior to the event! Last year we won in considerable style with over 100 points between first and second places. This year the competition was much tighter and it was difficult to split Tuesday and Thursday Beavers throughout the competition.
We are delighted that Thursday managed to pip Tuesday Beavers and win the Trophy for yet another year. There was less than 10 points in it!
Congratulations and well done to all those who took part. You tried hard and you had fun – and best of all you won! So very well done to Harry, Ryan, Alex, Oscar N, Fergus, Jacob, Sam, Samuel, Stephen, Thomas, Juan, Joseph, Jack & Oscar W!
Thursday and Tuesday Beavers took part in the Island Beaver Sports Day on the 30. June 2013, at Gymn’s FC. Conditions were good, although rain threatened. Nine Beaver Colonies took part in the Sports Day, and events included running races, egg and spoon races, sack races, skipping races, ball and cup races and space hopper races. There were also two relay events, the running relay and the infamous water relay.
Thursday Beavers are the reigning Champions and holders of the Sports Day Trophy. We had a good turnout of eleven boys, only four of whom had competed last year. We also undertook the usual two weeks of training prior to the event. We are delighted that not only did Thursday Beavers win the Trophy for yet another year, they won in style – with fifteen first places out of a total of thirty races! They also won the running relay, despite a fall at the start which put them at the back of the field, and they won the water relay, in spite of the small jug and bucket!
All those who took part finished in the top three in at least one of their races – a remarkable result, so very well done to Harry, Ryan, George, Oscar L, Luke, Alex, Lee, Fergus, Evan, Charlie & Oscar N!
Thursday Beavers finished the afternoon with 317 points and in second place came Tuesday Beavers with 186 points. All round a great afternoon for 2nd Onchan Beavers. The competition continued in the Leaders’ egg & spoon race with Lee beating Jane to the post, however it was noticed that there was some cheating going on!
2nd Onchan Thursday and Sunday Beavers took part in the Island Beaver Sports Day, held at Gymn’s FC. The Sports Day took on an Olympic theme and each Colony represented a different country. Thursday Beavers were Jamaica and Sunday Beavers were Spain!
Despite some rain showers in the morning, the sun came out, the ground dried up and conditions were near perfect. With a brilliant turnout of 22 Beavers and two weeks of training – 2nd Onchan Thursday Beavers came in a fantastic FIRST (out of 11 Colonies)! Beavers took part in running races, the egg and spoon, the sack races, skipping, ball and cup races and the space hopper races, finishing with the running relay and the infamous water relay– it was a great result and all the team did their best!
Just two points behind 2nd Onchan Thursday Beavers were 2nd Onchan Sunday Beavers. Sunday Beavers had a turnout of just 7 Beavers meaning they were all kept busy for the afternoon! The final event – the water relay – made all the difference to Sunday Beavers where they came in second place – giving them valuable points and moving them up to second overall position – another great result from 2nd Onchan!
