Scouts from both the Moddey Dhoo and Phoenix Scout Troops attended the Island Scout Camp which was held over the 29. June to the 1. July 2012, at the Crossags Camp Site in Ramsey.
There was a very good attendance from most Island Scout Troops and an excellent turn out of Explorer Scouts working as Young Leaders and so many Scout Leaders, it was sometimes difficult to find them all a job.
Friday night was spent setting up tents and getting organised and then the whole camp hiked up to the Albert Tower where Flag Break as held. Back on site there was supper and a briefing, before everyone headed off to bed.
Saturday saw the Scouts doing various activities which included Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Raft Building, Pioneering, Backwoods Cooking, including the skinning of freshly killed rabbits. Axe and Saw Skills, Assault Course, Archery and loads more. In the evening the Scouts took part in an orienteering exercise, before siting down to the camp fire, full of Scouting songs and skits. After supper everyone watched a movie in the giant ‘Ark’ building.
On Sunday it was overcast and there was a light drizzle After breakfast it was decided to send the Scouts off swimming or Ten Pin Bowling, while the Explorers and Leaders dropped all the tentage as the rain had died off and the wind soon dried the canvas.
After lunch it was a case of packing up gear and transporting badly packed rucsacs and the Scouts down to the collection point ready to head off home.
The weather is looking just as bad this weekend as it was last weekend, so the Millennium Way Hike is being postponed again. We are going to try to complete the hike on the 21. – 22. July 2012. all other details remain the same. Amended letter can be found here.

Hope to see you there.
Scouts from both the Moddey Dhoo and Phoenix Scout Troops and the Onchan Explorers are working this week with other Island Scouts on the Scoreboards during the TT Races. Saturday went well with just a short delay, but long delays on Monday meant that we didn’t finish until after 8pm. Well done to all the Scouts involved. Two more days racing to go.
The Scout Passes for the TT Scoreboards have now arrived and will be sent out to Scouts of both the Moddey Dhoo and Phoenix Scout Troops over the next week. The Scout Association had a very large request for passes this year and with the reduced number of Scouts needed, most Scouts will find they are only required on one day out of the four. The organisers had a choice of giving every Scout a day on the Scoreboard, or having just one out of every four who applied being able to attend each race day, with the other three missing out completely, they chose the former.
The 2012 Island Scout Camp is taking place over the 29. June – 1. July 2012 and will be based at the Crossags Camp Site, Ramsey. All Island Scouts and Explorer Scouts will hopefully be attending the camp and taking part in a wide range of activities. It would be great if we can get every Scout from 2nd Onchan joining in as well. Below you will find a Letter, Medical Form and Kit List for the Camp. Permission Slips and completed Medical Forms together with the Camp Fee need to be returned by the 15. June 2012.
