Beaver Scouts Football Competition

imageAfter Half Term, Thursday Beavers were busy practising for the Beaver Football Competition. Under the guidance of our Head Coach and Assistant Beaver Leader – Chris, the boys worked hard and our two teams took shape.

Eleven Thursday Beavers took part in this event on Saturday 15. November 2014 (one even having to go for a swimming lesson in between games – well done Joshua). There was a record 18 teams taking part in this year’s competition, which was held at the Community Centre in Onchan. The teams were split into four smaller Leagues with one of the Thursday Team’s winning their League and one of the Tuesday Team’s coming top of their League. The two Onchan Teams took part in different semi-finals, both winning their games by just one clear goal! For a second year running it was a Tuesday – Thursday Final, and after a tightly fought, tense match – Thursday Beavers scored the deciding goal with just seconds to spare. So very well done to all those who took part – Ethan, Harry, Samuel, Oscar and Jack, and to Matthew, Joshua, Joseph, Callum, Fynn and Jacob.

Beavers Football Competition

image

2nd Onchan Thursday & Tuesday Beavers recently took part in the Island Beaver 5-A-Side Football Competition. A total of 9 teams entered, including two from 2nd Onchan Thursday Beavers and one from 2nd Onchan Tuesday Beavers. The teams were divided into two leagues, and then played all the other teams in their league. Tuesday Beavers got off to a fantastic start and were top of the leader board in league 1 after two matches. They got piped into second place by one of the 1st Douglas teams. The Thursday Beavers B Team (Oscar L, Oscar N, Stephen H, Charlie M, Ashton Q, James H, Kian L and Luke A) also played in this league, but despite some brilliant matches, finished a bit further down the table.

imageThursday Beavers A Team didn’t get off to a great start in league 2, drawing their first game and only getting 1 point. After a pep talk from Lee they picked up for their next few games, and despite some anxious times, they finished top of the leader board! Before the final took place between the winners of league 1 and 2, there was a penalty shoot out competition against two of our referees – 2nd Onchan helpers Chris and Sam. All the Beavers had the opportunity to take part and were eliminated from the shoot out if they failed to score. The last surviving Beaver – who scored the last penalty, was 2nd Onchan Thursday Beaver – James H. Well done James!!

There was much excitement as the final commenced between 2nd Onchan Thursday A Team (Ben W, Aaron C, Bradley K, Alexander G, Vannin C and Ryan E) and 1st Douglas. The game finished with a 1-1 draw and then went into extra time. Aaron C of 2nd Onchan Thursday Beavers scored the winning goal in the closing minutes – much to the delight of the whole of 2nd Onchan!! Very well done boys – they showed great focus and determination. Needless to say Lee was one very happy coach!!

Thanks to all the parents for supporting this event, but special thanks to Chris and Sam who were referees and match advisors and a real credit to 2nd Onchan!

Manannan Pack Win Football Tournament

image

Manannan Cubs entered two teams into the Island Cub Five-a-Side Football Competition this year,  with the event being held at Laxey AFC.  Both teams started really well, with the teams  beating all their opponents in the group stages. Having done this we progressed to the Quarter Finals, again both of the teams did really well and beat the other teams with ease.  We then made it through to the next round, however we met each other (surprisingly) in the Semi – Finals.  Both teams played fantastically against each other with the final score being 2-1 to the B team who made it through to the final.  Unfortunately the A team lost, but then played in the play offs beating the 1st Arbory Cubs.  Well done to the A team for coming 3rd.

The final was against 1st Rushen Cubs, both Packs played really well, but simply the Manannan Cubs were too good and they all played with class and skill and beat the Rushen Cubs 4-0.  We have now won the trophy for a second year in the row.  A huge congrats must go to all the Manannan Cubs for their huge effort, and all the leaders were thrilled to have the Barry Kelly trophy back in the 2nd Onchan Trophy Cabinet.

Beavers Five-A-Side Football Competition

image

2nd Onchan Thursday Beavers recently took part in the Island Beaver Five-A-Side Football Competition. A total of nine teams entered, including two from 2nd Onchan Thursday Beavers. Each team played a total of eight matches – with each match lasting four minutes. It was a tiring but an enjoyable and exciting afternoon for the Beavers. Our A Team fought hard to win their games and finished in an admirable joint 4th position. Team B played very well too finishing a little further down the leader board. Lee was disappointed not to have reclaimed the Trophy this year, but we were all very proud of how well everyone played. Very well done to both teams.
