Four Onchan District Explorer Scouts tonight gave the rest of their Unit and invited guests a presentation on their 2011 World Scout Jamboree experience. The Scouts gave a talk of their trip before showing a slide show video of their time in Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland.
The Group will once again be collecting the Tesco Schools and Clubs Vouchers. They will be available from Tesco within the next week. We would be very grateful if vouchers could be donated to our Scout Group. Vouchers can be handed into any Leader or left in the collection box located in the Scout Hall Kitchen.
We have thirty Cubs, Scouts and Explorers Scouts, together with six Leaders going on the Narrowboat Camp in August.
A couple of weeks ago two Leaders met the Narrowboat owners in Birmingham to have a look at the boats and get some ideas for the programme. Next week all the Leaders will be getting together to get the full weeks programme organised. This will then be published on this website.
We have booked our ferry crossings for the group and on Saturday 4. August 2012, we will be traveling over to Liverpool on the 07:30 Seacat. On Saturday 11. August 2012, we will be traveling back to the Island from Liverpool on the 19:15 Seacat.
We are still sorting out our travel to and from Birmingham and are looking at both coach and train options.
Baggage – As room on the Narrowboats will be quite restricted, we would ask that everyone ensures their kit is in either a rucsac or a soft Holdall, no suitcases please.
A date has been set for the all Island St. George’s Day Parade, it’s Sunday 22. April 2012 and the parade will be taking place in Ramsey. The open air service will be held in Mooragh Park, if the weather is fine. All members of 2nd Onchan (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) will be expected to take part. St. George as well as being the Patron Saint of England is also the Patron Saint of Scouting and it’s for that reason we celebrate St. Georges Day with a Parade and Service. It’s also the only time during the year when all members of the Scout Association – Isle of Man, have the chance of getting together. Date has been added to our Group Calendar.
The Group now has a YouTube Channel. At the moment there are only a few videos on it, but hopefully more will be added in due course. You can find the channel here.
The last two available places on the Narrowboat Camp have now been taken.
We had an overwhelming response to the 2012 Narrowboat Camp, so much that we had a reserve list of Cubs and Scouts wishing to take part. We have decided to book an extra boat to take those on the list and they have now all been accommodated. We now have just two extra spaces available. If you are interested in taking one of these places please email firstname.lastname@example.org to see if it hasn’t gone yet. Details of the Camp can be found here.
Moddey Dhoo Scouts Adam E. and Sam L. were presented with the Commitment Award. on the 13. December 2011. Sam B. of the Phoenix Troop was presented with the Award on the 16. December 2011. The two Sams and Adam will be moving up to Explorer Scouts after Christmas and we wish them well.
