Facebook Groups

All 2nd Onchan’s Sections have their own Facebook Groups. Leaders use these to keep member’s parents informed of upcoming meetings and activities and post reports and photos from meeting and events. Parents often post questions to Leaders and may notify Leaders if their child is unable to attend a meeting. Some Leaders may not be able to monitor Facebook as often as others, so parents shouldn’t rely on Facebook as a way of reliable communication. Some groups are also more active than others.

We ask that all parents have a way of contacting their child’s Leader, by telephone, mobile and by email. We can’t provide that contact information here, this must be requested directly from the Leader concerned, usually at a meeting.

All our Section Facebook Groups are closed and membership is restricted to parents, guardians and youth members (over the age of 13) who have a direct connection with the Section. Membership of the Facebook Group is usually terminated once the child leaves that Section. Below is a list of our Facebook Groups:

Subs Due

imageSubs for the upcoming term become due from the 1. September 2016. We ask that parents ensure that their child’s subs are paid as soon as possible and by no later than the 30. September 2016.

You can download the Subs Form here.

We would also like to remind parents (and youth members) what we ask of all members of 2nd Onchan.

What we ask of our members:

We don’t ask a lot of our members, but we do ask the following:

  •  They attend regular weekly meetings.
  •  They wear the correct uniform (details on our website).
  •  They pay their Term Subscriptions before the cut off date.
  •  They attend St. Georges Day Parade (usually in April), Civic Sunday (usually in May or June) and Remembrance Sunday (in November).
  •  They take part in our weekend activities where possible.
  •  They support, with their families, our fund raising and social events.

Further details can be found here.

2017 Summer Camp

image

For our 2017 adventure we are planning a week long camp at a site we haven’t visited for a number of years, it called Great Tower Activity Centre and is one of the Scout Association’s premier camp sites in the UK. The site is located close to the shore of Lake Windermere in the heart of the Lake District and is set in 250 acres of wooded and craggy ground. We have booked the the Windermere Chalet, which will provide comfortable indoor accommodation during our stay. The Camp will run from the 29. July to the 5. August 2017.

Further info here.

Civic Sunday

imageWe have been invited by Onchan District Commissioners, to take part in their Civic Sunday Parade & Church Service, which is taking place on Sunday 10. July 2016. All Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders are asked to take part in the Parade and Service.

We will be meeting at Onchan Youth and Community Centre (just below the Scout Hall) for 14:20 prompt. Full uniform is to be worn, including school shoes. The Church Service is being held at St. Peter’s, from where youth members can be collected at about 15:30.

As a Group we only attend three Parades a year and they are an excellent way of showing off our Group to the general public. Please support your Scout Group by making sure you attend.

Bottles Wanted for Bottle Stall

image

The Group will be running at Bottle Stall at the Onchan Village Fair on  the 18. June 2016. We are looking for donations of bottles and jars (anything in date and unopened). Some of our Sections will be holding Dress Down Days (no uniform in exchange for a bottle) . In the past everyone has been very generous and the stall has managed to raise some valuable funds for the Group.

If you can donate a jar or bottle please hand to a Leader at any meeting. Thanks in anticipation.

Blackpool Day Trip

image

On Saturday 21. May 2016, seventy four Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Leaders plus a few parents from 2nd Onchan, went on a day trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. We met at the Sea Terminal for 06:30, the Seacat left at 07:30, straight into some rough sea, quite a few of our younger members were sea sick, so several Leaders were kept busy sorting this out. The sea calmed down as we approached Liverpool and once off the boat we were quickly on a couple of coaches heading towards Blackpool. Heavy rain followed us all the way up the motorway and after around an hours drive we arrived at the Pleasure Beach, just as the rain stopped and the sky began to clear.

We quickly booked in and All Ride Wristbands were fastened around everyone’s wrists and we were soon in the park. The Scouts and Explorer Scouts were allowed to go around by themselves in small Groups, while the Beaver Scouts and Cub Scouts went around the park with Leaders and parents.  The weather stayed fine for our four and a half hours at the Pleasure Beach and everyone had a brilliant time going on as many of the attractions as possible. At 16:15 we all met up again and fifteen minutes later we were back on the coach heading back to Liverpool. Luckily the crossing back home was a lot smoother and only one Scout suffered a bit of sea sickness.

A successful trip which everyone seemed to enjoy, we will be planning another in the future.
